ICS Triplex T8310 Trusted Expander Processor with Triple Modular Redundancy

ICS Triplex T8310 Trusted Expander Processor module overview
The ICS Triplex T8310 Trusted Expander Processor is a fault-tolerant module built on a Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) architecture in a lock-step configuration. It is designed to extend the Trusted system's capabilities while maintaining high reliability, even in the presence of faults.
The processor contains three main fault containment regions (FCR A, B, and C). Each region has interfaces to the Expander Bus and the Inter-Module Bus (IMB), an active/standby link to the other TMR Expander Processor in the chassis, along with control logic, communication transceivers, and power supplies. These independent regions help prevent single faults from affecting the rest of the module.
The module communicates with the TMR Processor through the TMR Expander Interface Module and the triplicated Expander Bus. Each channel of the bus has separate command and response paths, and voting at the Expander Bus Interface ensures the system can tolerate cable faults. Even if a fault occurs, the rest of the Expander Processor continues to operate in a fully triplicated mode.
Communication with the I/O Modules in the Expander Chassis occurs via the IMB on the backplane, which is identical to the one in the Controller Chassis. This provides the same fault-tolerant, high-bandwidth communication. All transactions on the IMB are voted, containing faults locally if they happen. A fourth FCR (FCR D) handles non-critical monitoring and display functions and participates in the inter-FCR voting system. Isolation between FCRs ensures that faults cannot spread from one region to another.

ICS Triplex T8310 mechanical keying and polarization guide
    Mechanical Keying & Polarization
All Trusted Modules are mechanically keyed to prevent incorrect insertion into a chassis, ensuring proper alignment and system integrity. The polarization system is composed of two elements: the module itself and the associated field cable.
    Module Keying
Each module type is pre-keyed during manufacturing. This ensures that only the correct module can mate with the designated chassis slot, preventing misalignment or incorrect installation.
    Cable Polarization
The system integrator is responsible for keying the field cable to match the module. This is done by removing specific keying pieces from the cable so they align with the bungs fitted on the corresponding module. For installations requiring Companion Slot configurations, both keying strips must be polarized to maintain system compatibility.
    T8310 Specific Instructions
For the T8310 module, remove keying pins 1, 2, and 5 on the cable prior to installation. This ensures proper mating and prevents any potential mis-insertion, maintaining the fault-tolerant design of the Trusted system.
